지구는 둥글다던데...

저저번주 일요일 (Jan. 28, 2007) 부터 3일에 걸쳐,
NHK 에서 인도에 대한 특집 다큐멘터리를 내보냈었다.

• 인도의 소비
• 인도의 정치

"인도의 두뇌" 편에서 인도의 대표적인 두뇌 집단으로 IIT (인도 공과 대학) 와 인포시스가 소개되어졌다. 인포시스가 화면에 비추어지기 전에, NHK 카메라에 담겨진 한 져널리스트가 있었다. "Thomas L. Friedman". 2005년도 4월에 출판되어 지금까지 우리가 가지고 있던 "지구는 둥글다"는 믿음에 커다란 타격을 가한 "The World is Flat" 이라고 하는 책의 저자다.

Friedman씨는 그의 책 속에서, "The World is Flat" 은 Infosys 의 회장인 난단 닐레카니씨와의 대화 속에서 영감을 얻어 쓰게 되었다고 한다.  닐레카니가 Friedman에게 던졌던 말은,

"The world's economic playing field was being leveled"

아직 책을 주문해서 몇장 읽지도 않았다. 책을 읽어가면서 내가 인포시스에서 일하면서 공감이 가는 곳들에 대해서는, 한국말로 번역을 적어 놓을 생각이다.

내가 세상을 평면으로 만들어 가고 있다.
