어제 인포시스가 Axon이라고 하는 유럽회사를 인수하기로 했다는 뉴스가 있었다. IT회사의 인수로는 인도에서 가장 큰 규모라고 한다.

인포시스: One of 10 Global Companies to Watch

회사 웹싸이트에서, 조금은 오래된 기사를 읽게되었다.
인포시스가 BusinessWeek에서 정한 "주목해야 될 10개의 Global Company" 의 리스트에 올라있다는 기사다.

인포시스와 함께 리스트에 오른 회사들은,

2007년 4월의 인포시스 사원수는 7만3천명에 이른다. 작년보다 37%나 늘어난 숫자이다. 그만둔 사람들dmf 합쳐서 순수하게 늘어난 사원수는 2만명. 어마어마한 성장률이다. 내 사원번호가 35363. 내가 입사한지 3년이 되어가는데, 그 사이에 채용된 인원이 4만명이 넘는다.

인포시스의 브랜드 가치가 작년보다  38% 성장한 Rs. 31,000 Cr (7100억) 에 평가되었다는 기사를 읽었다.

그 씨리즈의 첫 테이프를 끊었던 것이 인포시스였다. 기사의 타이틀은,

직원 6만명·매출 30억달러… ‘SW 제왕’ 꿈꾼다

내가 인포시스를 좋와하는 이유 중에 하나가, 인포시스를 처음 만든 창업자들의 창업 정신이다. 얼마 전에 60살의 생일을 맞이하면서 은퇴를 한 무르티 회장은, 인포시스를 만들면서 가난한 청년들 600만명에게 일자리를 제공할 수 있는 그런 기업을 만들 것을 목표로 인포시스를 설립하였다고 한다. 그 뿐만이 아니라, 처음에 인포시스를 만든 창업자 6명의 자녀들은 인포시스에 취직을 할 수 없도록 규정되어 있다. 우리나라의 기업들과는 많이 대조가 되는 부분이다.

Finacle, ‘2006 IRCB 매직 쿼드런트'에서 ‘리더’ 로

구글에서 "인포시스"를 검색하면, 검색결과에서 정작 인도의 "인포시스"와 관련된 Hit는 그렇게 많지가 않다. 언제나 검색결과의 1위를 차지하는 싸이트는 InfoSys Corp. 이라고 하는 회사의 홈페이지, 그리고 이정환씨의 블로그에 게재되어있는 포스트가 2위를 차지하고 있다.

일본만 해도 요즘 인도에 관한 관심이 많이 높아지면서 인도에 대한 기사와 TV 프로그램도 많이 만들어지고 있다. 그 속에서 "인포시스"에 관한 기사들도 가끔씩 눈에 띄고 있다. 반면, 우리나라에서는 인도의 "인포시스"라고 하는 기업에 대한 정보는 그렇게 쉽게 찾아볼 수 가없다.

그런 와중에 MSN증권에서 "인포시스"의 핵심 뱅킹 팩키지인 Finacle이 시장조사 전문회사 가트너(Gartner, Inc.)가 최근 내놓은 ‘2006 국제 소매 코어뱅킹 부문 매직 쿼드런트 보고서’(Magic Quadrant for International Retail Core Banking 2006, 이하 `2006 IRCB 매직 쿼드런트`)에서 ‘리더 쿼드런트’에 선정됐다고하는 기사를 실어 놓은 것이 눈에 띄었다.

가트너에 따르면, "Leaders are vendors that possess a strong banking market understanding, have a measurable strategy for disaggregating core banking software functionality into component-based constructs, exhibit highly developed and certified development and delivery of quality methodologies, and have extensive marketing delivery and sales channels. Leaders also share conspicuous operational organization approaches that are relevant to the business and a willingness to extend resources to ensure a successful customer experience."

"인포시스"는 지금까지 Oracle이나 다른 회사에서 내 놓은 ERP 시스템들을 고객의 요청에 맞추는 Customization 프로젝트에 그 중점을 두어왔었지만, Finacle의 완성과 함께 은행권에서는 "인포시스"의 독자적인 기술로 만들어진 팩키지를 사용해 고객에게 더 한층 섬세한 맞춤형 시스템을 제공할 수 있게되었다.

지금, 내가 참여하고 있는 프로젝트 역시 제2의 Finacle을 목표로, 그 개발이 한창 진행중이다.
